Bombardier awards aerospace jobs to UK firms
Tuesday, 23rd February 2010, 13::05
Aircraft manufacturers Bombardier has awarded two aerospace jobs involving work on commercial planes to UK companies.
Isle of Wight firm GKN Aerospace will provide the winglet for the CSeries aircraft in an aerospace job that could be worth up to $100 million (£64 million).
Cytec Engineered Materials of Wales will supply Bombardier with advanced composite materials for the wings of the aircraft.
Michael Ryan, vice president and general manager of the company, said more UK companies would be able to play a role in the aerospace job.
"As the largest ever single investment in Northern Ireland, the CSeries aircraft wing programme is also bringing significant benefits to the wider UK supply chain," he commented.
Companies already selected by Bombardier to contribute to the aerospace job include Manchester-based Senior Aerospace BWT and Midlands firm Actuation Systems.
Bombardier recently announced it had delivered 302 aircraft in total for the 12 months ending January 31st 2010.
Guy Hachey, president and chief operating officer, said at the time that the company was "cautious" about the market.
