Harris Pye wins cruise ship engineering job in Swansea

Thursday, 5th November 2009, 10::07

Harris Pye has won a £20 million engineering job to refit a luxury cruise ship.

The three-month contract will see the Barry-based firm do the work on the Saga Pearl II at Swansea Docks, which are to be specially reopened in order for the project to be carried out.

As part of the engineering job, the ship's main engines, boilers and HVAC systems will be overhauled while a new sports deck, cinema and library will be added to the onboard facilities.

Chris David, Harris Pye technical director, said: "It is good news to reopen the dock and see it put to good use, and to create quite a number of temporary new jobs which will run through the difficult Christmas period in an economically challenged area such as Swansea."

Earlier this year, the company expanded its global operations with the opening of a new office in Australia in addition to its existing base in Singapore.
