Our client is Britain’s award winning leading provider of privately owned later living accommodation. Property development is at the heart of their business, but as the needs of their homeowners have changed, they have also developed other services designed to provide homeowners with a greater life in later life.

An excellent opportunity has now arisen for an Architectural Technician to join the company in the Technical team at their office in Byfleet, Surrey, dealing with projects that have already obtained planning permission.

As Architectural Technician, you will be required to assist with a number of projects at any one time with the responsibilities of preparing working drawings, layouts and other details required by the site. You will also be responsible for the preparation of the schedules required by the Buyers for procurement purposes in connection with materials and equipment.

You will attend site meetings and provide a general architectural service to a site, answering queries from Site Agents and visit sites as necessary to perform adequate architectural supervision.

The Architectural Technician will be required to operate AutoCAD to a high degree of proficiency utilising the Company’s standard range of plans and details for the preparation of general arrangement and detail drawings. You will co-ordinate information, for issue as necessary, received from Architectural, Engineering and Landscape Specialists, Sub Contractors, Land Surveyors and also from the Legal Department and external Solicitors in connection with conveyancing at the appropriate stage of construction, and will ensure that all designs prepared are both cost effective, within agreed budgets and comply with current Building Regulations.

Initiative is expected in this job and the Architectural Technician will be required to make day to day decisions relating to design, technical and site issues. You will be required to use discretion as to which matters are referred to a higher level for decision. The successful candidate must have an accurate working knowledge of the relevant regulations, and ensure that designs comply with the requirements of the approval authorities.

An architectural or building technology qualification to at least HNC/HND or RIBA Part 1 standard is necessary for this post. You will have relevant experience in an Architects Department or in Private Practice and will be competent in operating AutoCAD or alternative CAD system. Although not essential, some experience in contracts procedures and administrative skills will be an advantage.

Under the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) the Architectural Technician will require a ‘Construction Site Visitor’ CSCS card and have or be working towards a relevant industry qualification.

Hours of work are Monday to Thursday 9.00am to 5.30pm, and Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm with one hour for lunch. The AutoCAD Technician is expected to be flexible in keeping with the responsibilities of the position which may include working additional unpaid hours at busy times.
