Weapon System Equipments Engineer Job Description:
The role of a Weapon System Equipments Engineer is the owner of specific sub systems of the Ground Equipment hardware design, and where applicable, their integration onto Land platforms. The role also covers ensuring its design standard is fit for the purpose and is responsible for bringing the product from its early design during the Assessment Phase to a mature certifiable and producible design for the expected product evolution during the D&M phases.
• Manage & coordinate development activities across assigned work packages on behalf of the project CDE.
• Formulate and present evidence on the fitness for purpose of both design standards and (as built) build standards.
• Derive and manage the sub system Technical Requirements Specifications for the sub systems assigned to the role.
• Management of evidence in support of the Acceptance process for the hardware and installation design in the D&M phase.
• Provide the technical liaison and coordination of hardware management whether sourced from the business or from subcontractors.
• Develop the definition of and documents the sub system physical interfaces for the work packages assigned to the role.
The Weapon System Equipments Engineer is responsible for the following, within the limits of the sub systems assigned:
• Subsystem design studies in particular those relating to future Platforms and variants
• Subsystem testability
• Non-conformance management of the subsystem.
• Ensure the subsystem design is suitable for the environment/application.
• Control the technical interface with subsystem suppliers in conjunction with project Procurement Executive
• Control the mass/CofG/physical properties of the product
• Producing evidence in support of Safety approval of drawings, design specifications, and processes
• Producing evidence in support of CE approval of drawings, design specifications, and processes
• Generate and manage both Design cost and Unit production costs of subsystem
• Provision of Bids support
• Deliver Design Definition for the subsystem
• Conduct Assessments of possible functional solution options and technology solution options to aspects of the subsystem. Facilitate option selection decisions as a result of those assessments.
• Support Stakeholder Engagements with MOD and User organisations to brief the technical solution for subsystem.
• Contribute to the development of objectives and reviews undertaken by the team in support of the project CDE.

Production of Reliability and Safety Cases.
Duties include:
Generation of reliability and safety programme plans and agreement of such programmes with the project and the customer, commensurate with the requirements of the DEF STAN 00-40 series of standards or DEF-STAN 00-56, as applicable. Responsible for the generation, promotion and realization of the stated strategy on a given project.
Conduct a series of system and sub-system reliability activities in support of this plan during all lifecycle phases including, but not limited to:
Production of FMECAs
Preparation of reliability and maintainability predictions
Reliability growth and demonstration test planning, including analysis of the results
Provide support to internal and external project Reliability Panels and Committees
With the reliability focal points, assist in the management and integration of these activities with system engineering and design programs to ensure the timely delivery of material supporting the reliability case.
Liaison with other functions in order to derive reliability requirements.
Conduct a series of system and sub-system safety activities in support of this plan during all lifecycle phases including, but not limited to:
Hazard Identification exercises (SWIFT and HAZOP)
Hazard management and risk analysis, including Fault Tree and event tree analysis
Construction of safety arguments and ALARP statements

World class Defence Organisation based in Stevenage, Hertfordshire is currently looking to recruit 3x Senior Environmental Engineers / Environmental Test Engineers.
Please Note: you must be able to gain SC (Secret Level) Security Clearance if you’re not already cleared to that level.
The salary on offer is approx £35k - £45k (dependant on skills and experience) and comes with great benefits including; overtime, flexitime, company and individual bonus scheme, pension and healthcare etc.
Environmental Engineer Job Description:
To undertake a full range of engineering activities with the environmental skill area, applying specialist technical knowledge and advice to chief design engineers, projects and sub-contract design authorities.
Typical Duties include:
• Writing Environmental Requirement Specifications (ERSs), and subsequent documentation including Proving Plans, Proving Requirements and Proving Instructions in support of product development.
• Assessing the effects of the environmental requirements on product design and implementing a consistent test and assessment logic across each Project.
• Plan, prepare for, and oversee the conduct of, trial programmes at system, subsystem and component level within internal facilities and at external test houses.
• Writing technical reports in support of environmental engineering.
• Providing expertise in requirements management and preparing compliance statements in support of Certification.
• Applying technical knowledge in a range of simulation techniques (including data acquisition, signal processing & analysis tools) as well as climatic, shock & vibration and Structural Mechanical & fatigue testing.
• Providing expertise in the measurement and analysis of operational environments including field trials and flight data analysis in support of Requirements Specification development.
• Technical management of the environmental programmes - preparing compliance statements for Project, sub-system Design Authorities and the Customer.
• Responsible for managing assigned milestone deliverables associated with Environmental Engineering activities.
Experience Requirements:
• Thorough understanding of the environmental life cycle.
• Educated to degree or equivalent level
• Knowledge of Vibration, shock and climatic test techniques and systems.
• Knowledge of DEF STANs and related specs relevant to the discipline.
• Knowledge of Test and Measurement Instrumentation.
• Knowledge of signal processing and analysis.
• Good communication skills at all level both verbally and in writing.
