Technician – Mechanical Engineering
£14,737.00 to £16,045.00 per annum
The STEM Academy at BCoT is looking to recruit an experienced mechanical engineer to work as a workshop technician in their mechanical engineering workshop.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of industry experience of working with mechanical mills, lathes and turns and preferably be proficient at routine fault finding, maintenance and repair of these machines. You will also be expected to prepare materials for mechanical engineering classes which operate at the college.

Main duties:
• Act as technician support for teaching staff including demonstration where necessary. Prepare materials for staff in advance of set work.
• Provide technical assistance in connection with students work as directed by lecturing staff.
• Supervise workshop provision for engineering students.
• Develop and operate a recording and booking system for equipment and materials and be responsible for both stock control and security of these items.
• Be responsible for the effective, clean and safe daily operational function of studios, equipment and material, their maintenance and security adhering to health and safety legislation at all times.
• Maintain an inventory for equipment in accordance with financial procedures and regulations.
• Receive and check all deliveries for Engineering equipment, store and distribute appropriately.
• Ensure the safe operation and maintenance of workshop equipment.
• Liaise with other staff to assist with the implementation of departmental systems and initiatives. Take part in staff development and the ongoing updating of technical skills.
• Assist staff and students working in the Engineering Department in the practical display aspects of exhibitions and those assessments requiring exhibitions.
• Run taster days/workshops with external parties. Liaise with staff to assist with the implementation of school systems and activities.
• To be the department Health & Safety rep (training will be provided).
• Take part in staff development and performance management setting own targets and keeping BlueSky up-to-date

• GCSE grade A*-C in English and Maths or equivalent
• Working within an Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering environment
• Technical knowledge of an Engineering Workshop. Including Mills, Turns and Lathes
• Ability to prepare equipment and/or materials for use in an Engineering workshop, meeting industry needs
• Awareness of Health & Safety issues

You will be responsible for day-to-day operation and supervision of the mechanical craftsman/operatives under your control ensuring the successful delivery of all projects on time and within the agreed budgets. ROLE:
Our client is currently recruiting for an Electrical Engineer / Maintenance Electrician to join their Facilities Team to provide an effective electrical maintenance service to the company by planning, organising, completing of electrical and general maintenance issues as they arise.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Respond to reactive and planned maintenance work as instructed.
b) Liaise with sub-contractors to ensure work is carried out to specification as required using safe systems of work.
c) Install and repair electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and components of industrial machinery and equipment.
d) Connect power supplies to machines and equipment.
e) Diagnose equipment failure following manuals and drawings.
f) Replace faulty electrical components such as relays, switches and motors.
g) Support Facilities department as required within capability and training.
h) Respond outside of standard hours as required.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:
a) Completion of a full Electrical apprenticeship and attainment of an appropriate qualification. City and Guild and or BTEC, ONC or HNC.
b) 17th edition wiring regulations qualified.
c) Experience in a similar electrical role in an industrial environment.
d) Working with both single and three phase systems and experience of electrical fault finding.
e) Checking and testing of electrical motors of all types.
f) Capable of reading electrical drawings.
g) Good knowledge of health and safety.
DESIRABLE SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:
a) Fork truck licence.
b) Understanding of PLC systems and Inverter drives of all types.
c) Practical knowledge of building maintenance.

ROLE:
Our client is currently recruiting for a Production Process Engineer to join their Materials Team. They will develop or improve production processes to increase efficiency of the manufacturing operations. The role will work within a team to improve manufacturing processes, thereby increasing productivity and reducing costs.
