Immediate Permanent Senior Infrastructure – Based in South Birmingham with PDS experience.

Client is looking to recruit a permanent Senior Civil/Infrastructure Engineer.

Role

The client is looking for a infrastructure design to undertake the detail design of roads, sewers, and associated infrastructure works for a varied client base, such as residential, industrial, commercial, health, and educational buildings. You will assist / undertake in the negotiation of Section 278, 38, 104 and 106 adoption and planning agreements on behalf of the clients with local authorities, Environment
Agency, Internal Drainage Boards and Water Authorities. Etc.

The client is looking for an experience candidate who will be able to lead a small infrastructure and or multi-disciplinary team, as required.

About You

An experience candidate with a Minimum of 10 to 15 years infrastructure design experience; including adoptable roads and drainage design.

Must have experience of design using PDS, WinDes, autotrack, TEDDS and AutoCAD design software. Also some experience with BIM systems would be beneficial. Design experience of private drainage to Document H and M of the Building Regulations.

Recent experience of rail related projects would be an advantage but not essential.

My client is a medium sized, long established Mechanical Contractor based in the Birmingham area. They currently work for Gas Transmission Sites, Powerstations, Warehouses and various Education and Accommodation projects.

An increase in workload means they have a requirement for a Project Engineer who can come in to take responsibility of the project from the point at which the order arrives from the client, to the point when the job is complete, this includes taking responsibility of the budget, making arrangements for commissioning, compiling schematics and holding and attending client meetings.

This job requires someone with previous experience in all of the above, educated to a minimum HNC/D level in Building Services, and also a proven track record of managing multiple projects, which will demonstrate your ability to prioritise.

Key Tasks

Understand all aspects of production engineering including – product Fixturing & tooling, CNC machining (CAD/CAM) and process engineering.

Oversee design of specialised tooling for manufacturing processes and the control of existing & new tooling drawings

Identify, project manage and implement process improvements within respective area and, where required, across the factory. (HSE,CI, NPI)

Utilise modern manufacturing tools including value stream mapping, CI, 5S, RRCA, lean manufacturing, plus the implementation/utilisation of TPM for improving process capability of machinery

Develop PFMEA, Assembly Procedures and standard work instructions in support of the manufacturing areas (creating new, and updating existing procedures)

Provide technical support to Engineering, Quality and the manufacturing cells to resolve production problems with minimum loss in production

Identify the most cost-effective methods of manufacture, thereby reducing costs, through investment in capital equipment and development of processes, both internally and with suppliers. Complete capital expenditure requests for purchase of new equipment, where required

Develop standard costings and carry out work measurement to establish process times

Use the company business system to develop and control product routings for new and existing parts

Work with all parties to develop the company manufacturing methodology to identify best practice, core competencies and aid make/buy decisions.

Support SSM and Finance in developing product costings for new products

Involvement with New Product Introduction (NPI) projects to promote DFM disciplines, agree manufacturing methods for hardware and, where required, develop new manufacturing techniques for innovative product designs

Liaise with suppliers & customers, and support on-site visits

Our client specialise in the design and manufacture of a range of special purpose equipment for global supply, and as a result of continued success and a planned program of strategic growth, are now seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, articulate and highly self motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to complement their established and successful team.

Reporting to the Design Manager, the successful candidate will be tasked with taking customer design specifications and translating them into workable mechanical designs, creating mechanical designs using 2D/3D CAD software programs such as AutoCAD, Pro-E and Inventor and effectively using FEA software to design and optimize to component elements.

Additionally you will operate in-house thermal design software, and a working knowledge of CFD software would prove distinctly advantageous. You will regularly liaise with both external and internal customers including Manufacturing and Purchasing teams at a technical level, and be comfortable in working both autonomously on projects and as part of a team.

To be considered for this varied and extremely challenging position, you will demonstrate a relevant HNC or Degree qualification or equivalent with a mechanical / thermodynamic bias, and ideally previous experience gained within a heat transfer related field preferred.

You will be computer literate, including MS Word/XL/PROJECT, and ideally will possess previous experience of designing shell and tube heat exchangers and tube and fin charge air coolers. With your sound knowledge of 3D CAD software (Pro-E and / or Inventor) proving advantageous, you will possess excellent communication skills at all levels and a full driving license for the role as occasional trips to surrounding locations and suppliers may be required as well as occasional trips overseas.
