Mechanical Design Engineer - Sheet Metal

Our client is a leading provider of award winning bond test and x-ray inspection systems for destructive and non-destructive mechanical testing and inspection of electronic components. They have developed a wide range of capabilities and solutions to cater for the testing requirements from across a broad spectrum of industries.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

*Able to demonstrate previous experience within a design similar role using Sheet Metal
*Conceive new designs that will perform to agreed performance, reliability and cost targets.
*Produce designs using 3D CAD, which can be easily manufactured by conventional means.
*Produce models and detail drawings (with tolerances) to BS308/8888.
*Produce accurate Bills of Materials for designs compatible with company procedures
*Write build instructions or procedures for designs.
*Design, build and use test rigs to prove new design concepts.
*Co-ordinate design projects.
*Calculate and make account of tolerances in all designs.
*Work to agreed timescales.
*Direct contact with suppliers to manage the manufacture and sourcing of prototype parts.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

*Educated to HND level in an engineering discipline
*Experienced in precision design
*Experienced in design for manufacture
*Good knowledge of 3D CAD
*Good numerical skills
*Intermediate Microsoft Office skills

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

*Design of vibration damped equipment
*Knowledge of equipment for the electronics industry
*NPI/NPD
*Use of FEA for optimization of designs
*Design of high precision motion systems
