Alstom Grid - a World Leader in Power Electronics urgently seek a skilled System Verification Engineer to join a diverse and rapidly expanding team supporting Engineering activities related to the System Verification Department here in Stafford.
ALSTOM GRID UK Ltd - Power Electronics HVDC and FACTS, Stafford is an international leader in Power Electronics and Control Technology, specialising in the engineering of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Transmission Systems, Static VAR Compensators (SVC) and other FACTS Systems for power utilities worldwide.
The Role:
* Support the execution of the engineering activities related to the System Verification department within the Unit's tenders, contracts and future market needs. The purpose of the System Verification department is to specify and define the characteristics of the HVDC/SVC equipment and control system and perform specific network studies needed to confirm the correct interaction between the equipment, its control system and the rest of the network.
* Keep abreast of new developments in HVDC/SVC controller technologies and system study tools.
* Analyze, define and communicate all technical documentation and internal standards related to requirements for systems in order to acquire the required level of technical knowledge within the Unit.
The Person
Education/Experience/Responsibilities:
* Engineering degree (or HNC/HND with proven experience) in power-system related activities.
* Carry out limited study/design work under supervision, and apply themselves towards improving their technical knowledge base and keep abreast of relevant methodologies and technological advancement within the Company.
* Preserve and update all study records and write internal technical notes and informal documentation.
Specific knowledge:
* Basic knowledge of power systems and of control systems for HVDC/SVC; a basic understanding of interactions between control systems and the AC network; some modelling ability is required.
* Fluency in English.
Business understanding:
* Knowledge of the company's business set-up, aims and procedures is necessary. Some understanding of electrical power system engineering for Utility customers
