Redundant housebuilding staff offered 'construction jobs reprieve' - 04-09-2008 - 13:48
Redundant housebuilding staff offered 'construction jobs reprieve' Workers who have lost their construction jobs at housebuilding firms in the last few months could be given a route back into employment by Carillion, it has been reported.

According to Construction News, the firm is actively seeking to recruit some of the 3,000 plus staff made redundant to fill "key positions".

Carillion is said to have added around 8,000 people to its workforce since acquiring Alfred McAlpine earlier this year, brining the total number of workers at the company to 50,000.

Richard Adam, finance director at the firm, told the news provider it is "going after" people who have worked in the housebuilding sector.

He added: "We need resources and potentially we have opportunities for people. There is a mixture, from front-end labour to office jobs."

Carillion, in conjunction with Babcock International Group, agreed a £3 billion deal with the Ministry of Defence earlier this week to build accommodation and provide training on how to carry out construction jobs for Royal School of Military Engineering soldiers.
