New construction jobs training centre opens - 04-09-2008 - 13:48
New construction jobs training centre opens The new £3.8 million National Construction College (NCC) has opened near Glasgow, providing much-needed training for construction jobs in Scotland, it has been claimed.

According to the New Civil Engineer, the centre at Inchinnan will help combat "an industry-felt need" for more construction jobs training in the country.

Offering up to 160 apprenticeships in the likes of general construction, groundworks and scaffolding, the NCC will also serve as the Scottish headquarters of ConstructionSkills, the sector skills council.

Nigel Donohue, field operations manager for the centre, told the magazine "first-class training at unrivalled facilities" will be on offer as a result of the completed institution.

He added: "The construction industry in Scotland is currently very strong and with major projects planned… the new NCC Scotland will support the growing need for construction training across the country."

John Butler, director and safety executive at McPhillips, recently told Contract Journal apprentices are a "golden opportunity".

He went on to say that with the support of ConstructionSkills, firms have the benefit of an employee capable of competently undertaking construction jobs for "very little cost".
