Watford hospital construction jobs come to a close - 04-09-2008 - 10:42
Watford hospital construction jobs come to a close Construction jobs on a new acute admissions unit at Watford General Hospital have been completed, it has been revealed.

The Gazette reports the 120-bed department, which will deal with emergency cases, offer scans and provide treatment in a "more efficient way", is due to open in March next year.

It will replace existing accident and emergency facilities at Hemel Hempstead Hospital, with an urgent care centre run by GPs setup to handle minor injuries.

Thomas Hanahoe, chairman of West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, told the newspaper the new unit will be a "state of the art" provision.

"In short, it will mean better treatment for the patients of west Hertfordshire," he concluded.

Earlier this week, it was announced Robertson Capital Projects has been chosen to oversee construction jobs on a new 88-bed hospital in Scotland.

The £18 million Midlothian Community Hospital for NHS Lothian will also operate as a day hospital for older people with mental health problems, as an out-patient department and also offer physiotherapy and occupation therapy services.
