Edinburgh tram project generates 50 new construction jobs Some 50 construction jobs are set to be created in Edinburgh as part of the city's tram project, it has been revealed.

The Scotsman reports German firm Bilfinger Berger is looking to add to its current 70 member team working on phase one of the £500 million contract.

A range of construction jobs are set to become available, as well as positions for civil engineers, engineers, general foremen and quantity surveyors.

Richard Walker, managing director of Bilfinger Berger, told the newspaper the firm has decided to add construction jobs staff as momentum builds on the project.

He added: "This project will deliver the world-class tram system which Scotland's capital deserves and we're delighted that we are able to support the local economy by boosting employment in the city."

Utilities diversion work is currently ongoing in Edinburgh in preparation for construction jobs on the network itself.

All utilities equipment and facilities situated underneath or close to where lines will be run - such as gas pipes and electricity cables - are being moved, with construction firm Carillion undertaking this phase in a contract worth £40 million.
