UK firm wins £42m UAE engineering jobs contract UK-based firm AMEC has been awarded a five-year offshore programme management contract to carry out consultancy and engineering jobs in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Zakum Development Company has issued the $75 million (£42.35 million) reimbursable contract, the largest ever handed out by the organisation.

AMEC will oversee a range of consultancy, project management and engineering jobs, such as a 60km subsea oil pipeline, a programme to increase offshore crude production in the upper Zakum field and an expansion of the company's onshore/offshore gas treatment facilities.

Tony Crudas, president of growth regions in AMEC's natural resources division, said the contract is a significant step forward in the firm's growth plans in the Middle East and North Africa.

He added: "Our offshore expertise from around the world, our project management consultancy experience in the Middle East, together with our Convero programme management system, were key factors in winning the contract, which we hope will lead to further work in the region."

The award of the UAE contract follows AMEC's interim results, which revealed record trading performance with an adjusted pre-tax profit of £90.4 million.
