Joint venture awarded RMSE construction jobs and training contract - 02-09-2008 - 12:03
Joint venture awarded RMSE construction jobs and training contract Holdfast Training Services, a joint venture between Babcock International Group and Carillion, has been appointed to oversee construction jobs on Royal School of Military Engineering (RMSE) sites in Kent, Hampshire and Oxfordshire on behalf of the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

The £3 billion, 30-year public private partnership contract will cover the development of new and refurbished accommodation and "essential training" for soldiers.

Royal Engineers will be taught skills necessary for construction jobs as part of the contract, such as bricklaying and plumbing.

Peter Rogers, chief executive of Babcock International Group, one of the partners in the venture, said the firm is looking forward to working with Carillion and the MoD to provide "world-class training and facilities management" for the RMSE.

He added: "This contract significantly strengthens our order book, which now stands at over £5 billion and underpins the long-term performance of our business."

Babcock recently signed a £675 million contract which will see it undertake ship construction jobs for the MoD.

The firm will be responsible for the bow sections of two new Royal Navy warships.
