Construction jobs use floating concrete plant - 27-08-2008 - 17:20
Construction jobs use floating concrete plant Construction jobs in east London's former docklands area are being serviced by a floating ready-mixed concrete plant, it has been reported.

Hanson has moored the plant to Wood Wharf quayside at West India Docks after relaunching the initiative, according to cnplus.co.uk.

The plant had been used in the area previously, producing over 600,000 cubic metres of concrete for high-rise construction jobs before being taken out of service in 2004.

Since its return, the facility has been supplying office-space and residential developments in the Canary Wharf business and finance centre with up to 1,000 cubic metres of concrete each day, the news provider reports.

The floating plant also addresses sustainability issues, as most projects are within half a mile - meaning barges rather than trucks can be used to supply them.

Last week, 24dash.com reported that the M4 Junction 11 and Mereoak improvement scheme near Reading is using recycled materials from local sources to increase the sustainability of the project.
