'Construction jobs to begin on Cardiff canoe slalom' - 21-07-2008 - 16:00
'Construction jobs to begin on Cardiff canoe slalom' It has emerged Swansea-based staff at Dean and Dyball will be responsible for construction jobs and design at a new sports complex in Cardiff after the firm was awarded a £12.3 million contract.

Work on the project, set out by Cardiff council in conjunction with the Welsh assembly, is set to start next month and will see a 250-metre, Olympic-standard canoe slalom and white water rafting centre created at Cardiff International Sports Village.

Construction jobs will include the implementation of a canoe conveyor, a cofferdam to "impound water" for the canoe slalom course, pumping chambers and an administrative building.

The new centre will become the first Olympic-standard pumped water canoe slalom in the UK and will be finished by 2010 so it can be used in the 2012 Games.

Meanwhile, construction jobs on the Aquatics Centre for the Games in London are ahead of schedule.

John Nicholson of the Olympic Delivery Authority confirmed plans for the building are on track.
