Construction firm Rok announces 500 new jobs - 09-10-2008 - 10:36
Construction firm Rok announces 500 new jobs Construction and building maintenance firm Rok has announced that it will create 500 jobs after merging its five plumbing, heating and electrical businesses.

The creation of Rok Plumbing Heating and Electrical will eventually create a further 2,000 to 2,500 jobs, the company says. The new division already employs 900 plumbers and electricians in the north of England and Scotland.

Commenting on the new jobs, Rok chief executive Garvis Snook said: "We have created this business for a number of reasons. Mechanical and electrical work has traditionally been the biggest source of delay on projects. Using our own staff in this area usually ensures a better quality of service and ensures we increase our revenues."

Mr Snook also said that the type of work the division undertakes involves long-term maintenance, which means the company will be able to benefit from repeat business.

Rok says the growth they are likely to experience will be organic, but that they have the money for acquisitions should the right opportunity arise - something that's good news for long-term construction job prospects.

The company spends around £250 million subcontracting plumbing and electrical work, with approximately a quarter of its construction work falling under those categories.
