
The contract for the major development of a £193 million library in Birmingham has been awarded to Capita Symonds.
In a deal which could see the creation of construction jobs in the area, the company will manage the design and construction of the new project.
According to Builder and Engineer, the new building, which is expected to be fully operational by 2013, will replace the city's current Central Library and will be built next to the Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
Speaking to the website about the deal, Capita Symonds' project director, David Robertson, said: "We are delighted to be appointed as Project and Cost Managers on this prestigious project and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Birmingham City Council and the Repertory Theatre and to playing our part in the delivery process of this exciting development for Birmingham."
The awarding of the contract has come after it was revealed that three construction firms are locked in a battle to win a £80 million contract in Lincolnshire.
