SENIOR PIPELINE ENGINEERS

A Senior Pipeline Engineer is now required at this well-established construction firm in St Neots, Cambridgeshire. As Senior Pipeline Engineer you will be technically responsible for the design of engineering projects in either the Gas and Oil Sector or the Water Sector with a turnover of between £20 and £50 million per year. You will manage and supervise between two and four design engineers plus CAD personnel totalling of the order of 10,000 man hours per year. This includes the provision of technical engineering advice at the following phases of projects or schemes: pre-tender, pre-construction, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance. For this role it is anticipated that degree level qualifications or chartered status or equivalent will be required.
The Senior Pipeline Engineer will join the Design Engineering Department of the company and your key responsibilities will include implementing engineering designs in compliance with Health & Safety Legislation; receiving, interpreting and implementing the requirements of supervising design manager. You will be actively involved in the interpretation and development of the Client’s design requirements for both the bid process and during the contract stage, ensuring that project and company quality procedures together with business management systems are implemented at all times. You will ensure that all relevant documentation is produced in compliance with legislation, codes and standards and client requirements and that design documents produced in-house are technically correct clear / understandable and distributed to all relevant parties to suit programme requirements.

You would manage and supervise civil engineering consultants plus some internal CAD personnel. Typically work carried out by consultants would total in the order of 2,000 man hours per year but requiring significant supervision and review. Included is the provision of technical engineering advice at some or all of the following phases of projects or schemes: pre-tender, pre-construction, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance.
Successful candidates will require at least some of the following technical skills:
a thorough understanding of safety regulations and responsibilities together with methods to control and reduce safety related risks; understand and apply the principles of associated with the results of geotechnical reports.; understand the requirements of site selection and preparation including slopes and cut and fill to prepare for foundations and structures for pipework installations; understand the requirements associated with cross country pipelines and in particular with temporary and permanent works associated with road, railway and river crossings.; understand and apply the principles of associated with temporary and permanent drainage; understand and apply the principles associated with underground services; understand and apply the principles of foundation and structural design including both vertical and horizontal loading. This must include seismic, wind loading and subsidence. Ideally you will understand the properties of civil engineering materials including limitations, alternatives, reasons for selection, the effects of their interaction and the appropriate tests that can be carried out to ensure specification compliance. You will also need to be able to use standard computer software packages.

Main Activities
Fabricate devices in the company's Cleanroom facilities following standard procedures where appropriate, following good Cleanroom working practice. Characterise these devices using the relevant equipment and work with Scientists to develop novel measurement techniques and systems to improve understanding and throughput. Characterise new materials produced by company Chemists, external partners and collaborators using a wide range of standard and novel techniques. Analyse results and make conclusions, writing reports when necessary. Keep careful records of all laboratory work to ensure control and traceability. Identify new approaches and architectures for novel organic electronic devices that will expand the company's IP portfolio and potentially contribute to future revenues.
