We are seeking a Welding Engineer, to be based in Scunthorpe and to provide welding engineering technical expertise as required to maintain and improve the product quality and cost base of Structural Workshops, as well as minimizing the risk of non-conforming product entering the market place and when necessary, providing a welding engineering service to other parts of the company.
You will spend the first 6 months under the guidance of a current welding engineer to understand systems & in house demands, before taking more responsibility for the provision of welding procedures for fabrication workshops & welding work carried out for internal & external customers, supporting the business in development of standards, update of welder quals & welding procedures.
You will play a key role in maintaining credibility as fabricator, retaining QA accreditation & underwriting welding activities and will have the ability to influence the long term welding capability of a major fabricator, liaising with customers and improving current welding technology.
The Welding Engineer will Monitor the fabrication quality, inspection and welding processes to ensure compliance with agreed standards and cost assumptions, will investigate and resolve fabrication quality issues and will design and qualify welding procedures to meet product and client requirements.
You will also take responsibility for the investigation of complaints relating to fabrication and welding engineering issues and recommending appropriate corrective action and will be required to expedite plant trials, manage relevant Business and Technical QA databases and advising production management on QA issues and will conduct Quality Assurance audits in support of the CC&I audit plan.

To succeed as Welding Engineer, you should be qualified to degree level or equivalent in Welding Technology, Metallurgy or a science/ engineering related subject, with a proven background in metallurgy & welding of carbon steels. A detailed knowledge of relevant Structural Workshops fabrication and welding processes and the ability to identify the origin and cause of fabrication and welding defects is essential, as is a detailed knowledge of the Structural Workshops Quality Management system. You must also be able to read & translate specifications, be conversant with all major carbon steel welding systems and knowledgeable of carbon steel metallurgy.
