Purpose of Position
Our client is a leading prime contractor and complex systems integrator and is one of the largest UK Defence companies with an annual turnover in excess of £500m.
It is currently engaged on a number of UK and international programmes to deliver complex C4I, future network enabled capabilities and future platform programmes. The business is looking for a number of key individuals to satisfy current and future project demands.
Our Client operates a matrix organisation structure and as such, the individual will reside within the engineering discipline of Platform System Engineering, reporting functionally to the Platform System Engineering Manager. Platform System Engineering provides specific skill and knowledge to platform projects such as Bowman and to future fighting vehicle programmes.
The successful candidate will undertake Electrical and electronic design tasks within multi-disciplined project teams for the design of platform systems. The role will take a holistic approach to engineering, taking into account factors such as safety, cost, ease of manufacture and through-life support.
Responsibilities
Responsible for the requirements analysis, detailed design, specification, prototype implementation and testing of the electrical & electronic aspects of the FRES Electronic Architecture and Vehicle Systems.
Responsible for electrical / electronic aspects of the Electronic Architecture and Vehicle Systems during all phases of the development lifecycle.
Responsible for creating all documentation required for the development of the electrical & electronic aspects of the Electronic Architecture and Vehicle System.
Responsible for specifying the design requirements of cable harnesses.
Responsible for tasking and supporting the cable harness design team.
Responsible for the cost of design, ease of manufacture and systems integration of electrical / electronic aspects of the Electronic Architecture and Vehicle Systems.
Responsible for the tasking and output of a small electrical and electronic design team.
Responsible for the design integrity of electrical & electronic design solutions including safety.
Responsible for specifying, implementing and documenting electrical & electronic design solutions into bid activities.
Responsible for liaising with human factors, supportability and mechanical engineering.
Responsible for representing the project team at various reviews including design, safety and programmatic.
Education/Experience
ESSENTIAL
Degree or equivalent in electrical / electronic engineering or equivalent experience
Electrical / electronic design knowledge
Military Land platform electrical and electronic system design knowledge.
Applied working knowledge of EMC/TEMPEST design practices, analogue and digital design, and electrical / electronic principles.
Applied working knowledge of high-speed data communication design and interface standards.
Familiar with, and capable of specifying microcontrollers, embedded processors and digital signal processing solutions.
Experience with power supply specification and energy storage devices.
Ability to use an electrical / electronic circuit schematic design tools.
Working knowledge of 3D CAD packages and BoM structures.
Full understanding of standard laboratory test equipment.
Full understanding of cable and wiring loom design practices.
Electrical subsystem component packaging and platform installation experience.
Ability to Liaise with and present information to multi-disciplined team members.
Ability to interpret electrical design requirements and propose appropriate design solutions.
Hold or be capable of holding security clearance up to the level of SECRET.
Willing to travel within the UK and overseas.
DESIRABLE
Familiarity with British Army Land mobile Platforms.
Working knowledge of interfacing to fibre optic communication bearers.
Understanding of automotive and drive-line components and their electrical & electronic interfaces.
Familiar with relevant Defence Standards, Military Standards and EC Directives.
Knowledge of selecting electrical / electronic components for military applications.
Strong written, verbal and communication skills.
Appreciation of human factors and design aesthetics.
Knowledge of high voltage transmission design.
