A Business Manager manages the unit. Engineers report to the Chief Test Engineer who is responsible for the technical conduct of all testing.

Description of Position
Our Clients Test Facilities operates as a business unit. The Facility services both our clients design and build projects as well as external customers on a roughly equal basis. Given a test requirement, engineers within the Facility will devise the test, design and supervise the manufacture of appropriate rigs, either in-house or using subcontractors, conduct the testing and report findings back to the customer.
A Business Manager manages the unit. Engineers report to the Chief Test Engineer who is responsible for the technical conduct of all testing. Work within the unit is broadly delineated into structural and environmental testing with most engineers having specific areas of technical knowledge. Staff work flexibly together, as a team, to meet the specific demands of each test. No two tests are the same, which calls for a high degree of ingenuity and cooperation on the part of all unit members.
Suitable candidates are being sought to meet the increasing demand placed on the Facility to undertake structural testing in support of our clients manufactured products.
Tasks include:
1.Interpretation of structural test requirements
2.Liaison with design, stress and manufacturing departments
3.Definition of instrumentation requirements
4.Design/scheming of structural test rig solutions
5.Organisation/supervision of test rig manufacture
6.Installation of instrumentation and data acquisition system set up
7.Conduct tests
8.Report writing
Skills
General
Hands-on engineering skills that would include design and manufacture possibly in a jig and tool environment.
Ability to work within a team
Essential
Ability to work flexibly either as part of a team or with minimal direction
Ability to communicate with workshop technicians and machinists
Adaptable can-do attitude
Good understanding of mechanics
Ability to read engineering drawings and produce concept schemes
Ability to understand the process of physical measurements and their meaning in a real engineering environment.
Good writing and verbal communications
Highly Desirable
Ability to undertake basic stress calculations
Detailed knowledge of structural test machines and rigs
Detailed knowledge in structural testing
Detailed knowledge of Labview
Desirable
Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor or AutoCAD or similar design package
Hands-on knowledge with hydraulics
knowledge of data acquisition systems
Advantageous but not essential
Previous knowledge of structural testing involving metallic and composite components
Detailed knowledge of aerospace structures
Qualifications
Likely to have completed an engineering apprenticeship or have a strong practical background
Probably gained HND or degree level qualifications
Experience
Detailed knowledge gained in an engineering environment
Might have a stress office or materials laboratory background
