Description
PURPOSE Design, planning, implementation and commissioning of monitoring and control systems for multi-media broadcast services over terrestrial television / radio, satellite systems and distribution networks.
Definite accountabilities/responsibilities
Provide specialist technical support to the telemetry workstream of the Digital Switchover Programme in the delivery of GUI based telemetry solutions for broadcast projects.
Ownership of specific aspects the design, build/configuration and test of the telemetry front-end being delivered by the Operational Support System project.
Assist with troubleshooting major design and build issues as they arise.
Produce supporting design/operational documentation for handover to the customer and internal operations departments.
Contribute to the design authority sign off and co-ordination process, with input into the production of cost effective telemetry system design solutions, ensure solutions are provided on time, in budget and delivered to the internal customer satisfaction.
Contribute to appraisal of leading edge technologies to provide innovative telemetry solutions, and system level design, whilst understanding telemetry requirements of existing broadcast technologies and systems.
Takes a responsibility for ensuring compliance with Health and Safety regulations in own working environment.
Willing to undertake continuous personal development to meet the technical requirements of future projects.
Potential accountabilities/responsibilities
Within the specific area of telemetry GUI development manage 3rd parties during development, installation and integration project phases.
Set tasks for and supervise more junior staff.
Regular liaison with internal and external operational groups, regarding long term persistent faults / design issues etc. Provide 2nd & 3rd line maintenance and operations support.
Contribute towards defining appropriate group processes and procedures.

Required Skills
experience or previous industry experience directly related to tasks associated with role.
Has worked on the preparation of mimic GUI systems using both Visual graphical tools and scripting high level languages.
Has a good grasp of object oriented design techniques (familiarity with UML would be advantageous)
Experience in a technical role, in a project environment, having worked on the delivery of projects to tight deadlines.
A good basic understanding of the function of broadcast systems with particular emphasis on digital radio, television and satellite.
A good understanding of the control and monitoring requirements of broadcast systems, including the requirements of Operations teams for managing and maintaining these systems.
Is well presented, polite and courteous to customers.
Is proactive in achieving tasks set by supervisors or project managers and is able to set clear tasks for others
Has good communication skills with the ability to explain technical matters in clear terms.
Is able to communicate work instructions to colleagues clearly and without confusion.
Has a methodical approach to work and the ability to pay attention to detail.
Experience of developing in Trihedral VTS, C, C#, Visual Basic.
Experience in the design and implementation of telemetry systems for remote monitoring and control in either Broadcasting, the public utilities or oil industry.
A good knowledge of communications protocols, such as Modbus and SNMP.
A good understanding of IT networks, networking protocols, especially IP, transport protocol (ATM, ASI) and applications, deployed, and used within Broadcast IT systems.
Experience of Health and Safety requirements, the relevance within the project process and the key elements for ensuring safe systems of work.
ROLE QUALIFICATIONS
Any of the following
BSc, or BEng in computer science, electronics, control or broadcast engineering.
BTEC Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Communications, Control or Electronic Engineering.
Edexcel (BTEC) Higher National Certificate/Diploma in an electronics, broadcast or control Engineering discipline.
Useful qualifications:
CEng or CITP or associate status would be a distinct advantage
