You will solve Engineering problems on a daily basis by creating sophisticated communication channels between the product they develop for clients, and an internal data server.

We actively require a Telecomms / Network Engineer who can join an innovative Product Manaufacturer in Southampton, Hampshire. You will solve Engineering problems on a daily basis by creating sophisticated communication channels between the product they develop for clients, and an internal data server. This is used to analyse data, and provide business critical information to clients. Your official job title will be Applications Engineer. You should have a great understanding of current Communications technology, such as LAN / Modem Cards and Mobile Networking Components.
Your role will involve designing Application specific Communications solutions, which allow important Engineering / Electronics data to travel across a network, and back to our client's server, for analysis. You will continually customise technology, and will look at ways to create wireless communication systems, networking routes, and ethernet channels. As an example you might look at an existing cabled communications channel, from our client's electro-mechanical product to a control box, and suggest how the use of LAN / Modem Cards and wireless networks could make the transmission of data quicker and more stable. This may involve purchasing mobile phone boards and embedding them into our client's product, and looking at serial outputs from the product, to the serial input of a modem, and creating solutions to link them up!
The role requires someone with a Degree Level (Or equivalent) qualification in Engineering or Communications, with strong experience in Electronics / Communications or Telephony development. Experience developing and implementing robust systems for harsh environments would also be very beneficial, but is not essential.
The role will involve a lot of liaison with key customers, understanding their engineering requirements, and developing appropriate bespoke solutions. You will also spend time on site with the client, installing and commissioning new products. Typically 25% of your time could therefore be spent in locations around the world, (maybe 1 week in 4). It is important that you can produce project deliverables (Design, communication systems, data, reports), communicate issues effectively, plan the qualficiation process, and project manage throughout.
