Description
An opportunity exists for the role of Technical Support Engineer working in a Customer Service Department of a dynamic international SCADA and Telemetry OEM. The role will be varied with a strong emphasis on providing customer facing and technically motivated support to solve problems raised via direct phone calls or e-mail and managed within a bespoke systems incident database.
This will require the need to operate calmly and effectively under pressure in helping to defuse and solve the issues raised, in a timely and professional manner. The role will therefore be key to sustaining the companys future customer base by providing service excellence.
This flexible, multi functional role will require other duties not limited to general customer support activities. Candidates will need to a hold a full U.K. driving licence as regular travel to U.K. destinations is to be expected, including overnight or multiple night stays. Occasional international travel may also be required.
Main Responsibilities:
Front line technical customer support and fault rectification.
Second line system maintenance and remote system diagnostics.
Duty Engineer rota during office hours.
Ensure customers are kept fully informed at all stages of solving the problem.
Training and configuration services for internal staff and customers.
Skills/Competencies required for the role:
Minimum qualifications: HNC/D in Electronics, I.T., Controls Software or similar.
3 years or more experience in a technical support environment.
Ability to fluently liaise directly with all customers with minimum supervision.
Excellent technical, analytical, problem solving skills with close attention to detail.
Able to work under pressure, think on the move, prioritise tasks under deadlines.
Confident, team worker with an understanding of commercial aspects.
Extensive and varied knowledge and skills on SCADA systems and protocols.
DEC Alpha, VMS, VAX platform, DCS and/or PLC knowledge an advantage.
Hardware (RTU/Outstations), telemetry and communication networks knowledge.
Good working knowledge of PC hardware, networks and Microsoft products.
