Technical Manager

Technical Manager
£35k - £45k
Nottingham

Purpose
To manage the implementation of all Technical objectives required to support the Corporate Strategy as Line Manager for the Design, Technical and R&D functions.

Principal Functions
Design/Technical
•Responsible for ensuring that the Department provides the relevant information to the correct party in the correct format at the correct time.
•Responsible for ensuring that the Department adopts a commercially aware approach to designs and all information provided on drawings.
•Responsible for ensuring that drawings are appropriate, for example, Architectural for the client and Engineering for the manufacturing facility.
•Responsible for ensuring that a Right First Time approach is taken by the department.
•Responsible for evaluating and mitigating risk associated with changes in design or the development of new designs relevant to the product.
•Responsible for signing off design changes from a structural perspective and ensuring final endorsement from an external independent Engineer.

Research and Development
•Responsible for championing and developing action plans to implement the strategic objectives of Clever design and use of resources and the intelligent use of standard components and standard components to provide custom solutions.
•Responsible for managing the resources to support the objectives defined in the Corporate Strategy within agreed timescales
•Responsible for managing the process of bringing new products to market, the development of existing products and for monitoring developments.
•Responsible for managing the relationship with external consultants.

General
•Line management of the Technical Team; responsible for the monitoring, appraisal and management of employees behaviour in line with corporate policy and personnel issues such as attendance and grievance etc.
•Leading by example; actively promote and maintain the Corporate Mission, Vision and Values.
•The job holder is responsible for promoting and adhering to risk assessment procedures at all times. This includes the responsibility for escalating areas of concern to the relevant Director.

Minimum Education / Qualifications
•Relevant HNC - engineering, manufacturing, construction, design (E)
•Incorporated status within an appropriate Technical Institution (E)

Preferred Experience & Training
•5 years experience managing a Technical team of up to 10 people (E)
•Working with Regulatory bodies (E)
•Minimum 1 years experience of Design for Manufacture (E)
•Experience of leading projects valued £250k - £2 million (E)
•Experience of Modern Methods of Construction (D)
•Management of an R&D function within the Construction industry (D)
