Description

Responsible for day to day technical and QA management of individual Gearbox, Rotor & Valve projects in the TSG workshop, thus providing strategic support to Technology Services, Generation and Renewables. The Technical Engineer will ensure that cross-functional working through the whole of TSGs Gearbox, Rotor & Valve team delivers cost effective services to both internal and external customers to a quality and standards

Key Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Section Head and Production Engineer you will manage the technical, quality and process of the Gearbox, Rotor & Valve team.

Co-ordinate and work with Production Engineer as directed by the Section Head on a day to day basis to ensure delivery of Gearbox, Rotor & Valves and associated parts are delivered o TSG outage sites on time and within budget and within agreed technical parameters right first time.

Take a leading role in ensuring rotor activities in the TSG workshop are undertaken in a manner which gives due consideration for the Health and Safety of the workforce as a priority above all other factors.

Ensure High Quality standards are maintained for all TSG Gearbox, Rotor & Valve refurbishment activities.

Ensure all activities comply with the requirements of ISO9001.

Ensure that all Quality Control Plans are prepared and distributed in an accurate manner.

Ensure quality hold points are adhered to.

Check and approve all critical work of others, as directed by the Production Engineer including technical documentation, and final inspection records as appropriate.


Job Specification:

The successful candidate will:

•Actively promote a safety culture within the Production team
•Ensure activities in the section comply with ISO9001 and TSG in-house procedures and systems.
•Promote a culture of continuous Quality improvement
•Prepare Work Instruction Packs, ensure they are complete accurate and understood by the entire team
•Prepare Quality Control plans and ensure compliance in relation to the clients specification
•Assist the Section Head in optimising the service to the clients portfolio whilst continuing to service third party clients.
•Provide management and technical reports as requested by the Production Engineer or Section Head in an accurate and timely manner.
•Ensure information for planning purposes is provided to the Production Planning Co-ordinator via the Section Head as requested in a timely and accurate manner.
•Take an active role in motivating the individual Gearbox, Rotor & Valve project teams
•Work closely with the Team Leaders and Lead Hands to identify areas of craftsmens technical concerns, listen and reduce potential mistakes, by accurate and well understood instructions.
•Apply commercial acumen to all Gearbox, Rotor & Valve contracts and projects to maximise income and profitability
•Ensure team compliance to the agreed specification, audit and check work undertaken and identify deviations from the standard and potential variations. Identify such deviations to the Production Engineer for action.
•Ensure TSG commercial risks are mitigated at all times
•Assist the Production Engineer and Team Leaders and manage the organisation of resources for the section, under the direction of the Section Head
•Support the Planning Co-ordinator by identifying areas of risk and cost saving by effective resource management
•Ensure team compliance with relevant technical standards of all projects
•Support the Production engineer in managing the customer interface with the Production Commercial Project Manger as required under the direction of the Section Head
•Deputising for Production Engineer in his absence.
•Lead and develop staff to ensure the challenges of the technologies, standards and performance can be proactively achieved

Person Specification

The successful applicant should have:

•HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
•Proven ability in refurbishment of heavy rotating power plant machinery
•Extensive knowledge and ability in heavy engineering workshop and rotor refurbishment techniques
•Working knowledge of contract structures and commercial awareness (TO)
•Understanding of ISO9000
•NEBS or similar management basic training
•IOSH Working Safely or equivalent
