Description

N/A

Position: Systems Engineer
Location: Dorset
Duration: Perm
Start Date: ASAP
Rate/Salary: up to £45k

Systems engineers are required at levels of experience from a few years after graduation to highly experienced. Our equipment incorporates mechanical, electrical and electronic devices so our ideal candidate will have well rounded experience of electro-mechanical devices and control systems, ideally as part of highly integrated aircraft systems. Examples of ideal backgrounds are fuel, oxygen, hydraulic or pneumatic systems. Typically these roles are populated by engineers with mechanical or aeronautical degrees, however electronics systems and controls engineers who have worked on the controller side of such systems would be suitable for some posts. We will be interested in persons who have closely related experience but who lack systems experience, such as component Project Engineers from aircraft equipment suppliers. These people should understand the fundamentals of aircraft equipment development and can be trained to understand the wider context of a systems approach. Candidates from outside the aircraft industry with a strong systems background in a safety critical industry will also be considered.

Depending on experience responsibilities will be allocated on a task or work package basis. A typical list of activities includes the following:
* Preparation of technical estimates for non-recurring costs and manpower requirements
* Bid support and preparation of Technical Proposals
* Requirements capture, validation and definition of verification strategy
* Definition of system architecture
* Allocation of requirements to sub-systems and components
* Preparation of Specifications and other project documentation
* Risk management
* Technical management of external suppliers
* Liaison with customers, internal and external
* Liaison with specialists such as design, performance and ILS engineers
* Liaison with other internal departments such as Product Support and Operations

For the mechanically biased roles a good understanding of solid and fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical technology, control engineering and airworthiness standards will be required. A candidate with an electronics background should have experience of the development of airborne digital control systems, probably in a project leadership position. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Project is needed. Experience of a Requirements Management tool such as DOORS or CRADLE is highly desirable, as is Six Sigma training.
