Systems Engineer- Sensors & Signatures for this leading prime contractor and complex systems integrator and is one of the largest UK Defence companies with an annual turnover in excess of £500m.

The successful candidate will undertake Electronic Architecture design tasks within multi-disciplined project teams for the design of vehicle systems. The role will take a holistic approach to engineering, taking into account factors such as safety, cost, ease of manufacture and through-life support. The initial position will be designing and developing a solution to meet the Specialist Vehicle ISTAR requirements.

The successful candidate will undertake Electronic Architecture design tasks within multi-disciplined project teams for the design of vehicle systems. The role will take a holistic approach to engineering, taking into account factors such as safety, cost, ease of manufacture and through-life support. The initial position will be designing and developing a solution to meet the Specialist Vehicle ISTAR requirements.

Responsibilities:
Undertake requirements analysis, specification, design and development of the sensor solutions (visual, thermal, radar, etc for Local and Platform level situational awareness and weapon system) for the FRES Specialist Vehicle. Participate in requirements analysis and specification of signature management aspects of the Specialist Vehicle design. Support the design requirements from other parallel Electronic Architecture teams. Communicate with suppliers and customers regarding the design of the Sensor Systems and Signature Management elements of the design on behalf of Specialist Vehicle Designer. Costing the ISTAR / signature management solutions. Inputs to bids/proposals, covering ISTAR aspects. Responsible for liaising with human factors, supportability and platform systems engineering. Participation at various project reviews including design, safety and programmatic. Participation in the creation of all documentation required for the development lifecycle.

Education/Experience:
Essential: Degree in Physics, Optics, Engineering, or Mathematics or equivalent. Extensive experience in a relevant environment. Background in design and development of systems for military land vehicle platforms or similar. Knowledge/understanding of requirements/architecture/technology/products associated with ISTAR and signature management. Good understanding and experience of systems engineering process, including requirements management, systems analysis/design, system integration and test. Preparation of bids/technical proposals. Experienced in the use of systems engineering tools/methodologies, including: requirements management tools (DOORS desirable), system design tools (MODAF/UML/ARTISAN desirable). You will be self motivated and able to work as an individual and within a team. Use of MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
Desirable: Familiar with relevant Defence Standards, Military Standards and EC directives. Knowledge of EOPM/CBRN/Radar. Ability to think at the systems level. Good documentation skills, with experience in the preparation of systems documentation, including system requirement specifications, system architecture specifications, system design specifications, system test plans, system test specifications. Experience of prime contract management. Ability/flexibility to support all stages of the systems engineering/project life-cycle Excellent English communication skills (oral, written, presentational), organizational skills, analyses and decision making skills, good interpersonal skills, sense of responsibility. Experience of military vehicle design.

This person must hold or be capable of holding security clearance and be willing to travel within the UK and overseas.
