We are currently looking for a Quality Manager with previous quality assurance experience in, ideally, the chilled sector to join a leading food manufacturer.
Principal Purpose of Job (including main objectives)
To ensure that systems of supplier assurance (including audit status) are maintained.
To follow up issues arising from supplier audits conducted either by internal personnel or alternatively those carried out by Third Party audit bodies on our behalf.
To be responsible for conducting audits of suppliers; these may be either 'Due Diligence' approval audits or follow up audits from supplier non-compliance issues.
To manage defined raw material product categories from a Technical perspective, including new materials for innovation projects and routine follow up of non-compliance issues.
To assist in the development of new raw materials (in defined categories) in conjunction with key contacts in the Innovation Dept. This may include attendance at supplier trials and first production runs.
To use acquired knowledge to provide technical advice and support to the business and it's customers.
To ensure that customer Codes of Practice are applied in relation to raw materials in defined categories (or other materials when requested).
In the absence of the Raw Materials & Supplier Improvement Manager, to be the member of the crisis management team to provide support following a serious incident.
Desirable Qualifications, Experience & Training and likely recruitment source for replacement
BSc. Food related subject/or science degree with relevant food experience
Minimum of 4 years relevant Technical food manufacturing experience with a bias towards the chilled sector; additional experience in Bakery or Produce would be beneficial
In addition to product experience above, demonstrable auditing skills (internal or external) are essential
Formal auditor qualifications (such as Lead Assessor) would be preferable
Demonstrable experience in dealing with Technical representatives of major retailers
Demonstrable experience in handling of audit non-compliances and their close out.
Formal HACCP training would be a benefit
Appropriate training in food legislation
Problem Solving
To lead, drive and provide hands on support to conduct technically challenging investigations of supplier non-compliance issues
To pro-actively investigate trends and implement actions that will drive improvements to prevent and if necessary resolve potential supplier problems
Principal Responsibilities:
To develop and maintain a high profile working relationships with suppliers and customer's Technical representatives.
To develop and maintain internal relationships with peers in other disciplines to enable cross functional co-operation
To conduct other reasonable tasks allocated to support functioning of the Raw Materials department.
Time cannot be apportioned to specific responsibilities due to the uncertain nature of the role, coupled with customer prioritisation.
