Description
A Structures Group Leader is required to manage a team of 15 Engineers responsible for design and development aspects of satellite structures. The Company operates a matrix organisation. Those Engineers will operate in project focused concurrent engineering teams covering the whole life of a satellite structure from conceptual design through detail design and analysis, manufacture and test.

verall responsibility for Structures Group technical excellence including day to day technical guidance and technical audit through informal reviews
Delegating technical authority including drawing approval in a responsible manner
Technical trouble shooting if problems occur
Ensuring that Company procedures are adhered to, supporting the development of new design methods, procedures and working instructions and ensuring best
practice is shared between all group members
Liaising with Project Managers to ensure resource needs are fully understood, allocating engineers to project, maintaining workload planning and ensuring that resource needs are fully met through recruitment, training and day to day resource management
Developing staff through planned training and mentoring.
Providing support to customer and subcontractor liaison as technical expect if required
Maintaining awareness with new materials, processes and design concepts and tools and initiating research and development as appropriate
Skills
Proven graduate industrial experience in the Aerospace or Composites industry or equivalent including hardware experience and including experience in the Space industry
A good understanding of load paths, structural concepts and material properties for lightweight metallic and composite structures.
Knowledge of spacecraft static, dynamic and thermal launch and operational environments and a thorough understanding of satellite structure design methods and test requirements
Post graduate experience as a Stress Engineer is desirable
General computer skills for analysis, planning and report writing
Leadership and decision making developed and demonstrated in previous roles
Cost and schedule planning and control
Communication
Successful candidates will be required to be security cleared prior to appointment.
