Description
Hand and computer aided detailed strength and stiffness analysis of lightweight spacecraft and related structures.
Stress Engineer
Hand and computer aided detailed strength and stiffness analysis of lightweight spacecraft and related structures.
Responsibilities will include;
Providing information for Designers to produce Engineering Drawings.
Support static and dynamic testing including loads specification and test result assessment.
Finite Element Model generation and use for static / dynamic loads using a pre- and post-processor and the NASTRAN solver. Must be able to work from self generated load balances and NASTRAN output.
Interpreting engineering drawings and competent use of electronic media to convey engineering information; produce concise reports for delivery to customers.
Write up work clearly, concisely and fully referenced.
Reporting to the Lead Stress Engineer working within a concurrent engineering team comprising Structures, Thermal, Propulsion and Manufacturing Engineers.
Responsibilities will include;
To provide an engineering definition of spacecraft structure component design that is cost efficient and complies with all requirements. This definition will be given to Designers to produce engineering drawings.
To write structures design documentation for customer reviews and provide all subsidiary information, which demonstrates, that all requirements are met.
To present and justify the design and it's development at customer reviews.
Designs will be taken from concept into production, therefore, design for manufacture, cost and minimum schedule are essential elements.
To work in a concurrent engineering team, reporting to the team Responsible Engineer, working with Stress, Thermal, Propulsion and Manufacturing Engineers and having a good appreciation of their work.
Must carry out basic structure sizing calculations, produce mass calculations and exercise mass control. Carry out manufacturing dimensional tolerance studies and use a PC as a working tool.
Must have a working knowledge of aerospace structures design techniques and methods and an understanding of the static and dynamic behaviour of structures, an appreciation of launch vehicles and the launch environment.
Successful candidates will be required to be security cleared prior to appointment.
