STRESS ENGINEER
Rate of pay up to £30 Ltd ph
Major Aerospace client has requirement for Stress Engineer in Mechanical Systems Installation & Transportation Group.
The Mechanical and Systems Stress group are involved in stress analysis of Fuel, Electrical, Hydraulic, Pneumatic Systems Installation, and leading/trailing edge mechanisms operating slats and flaps. Other areas of the wing considered are ailerons, spoilers, landing gear/engine to wing interface components. Wing Transport and Ground Support Equipment are also covered.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 years on metallic structures with working knowledge in the following areas:-
• Stress calculations by manual hand' methods and FE Nastran and Patran
Examples are:- Mechanisms, pins, lugs, bushes, joints, fabricated structures-both welded and riveted, pipe/duct stressing including connectors/castings, brackets, and associated systems support structure (Fuel/Pneumatic/Hydraulic/Electrical)
• Interface load and stress reports
• FE (Finite Element Analysis) preferably using MSc Nastran/Patran
Examples are: Analyses of mechanisms and systems runs primarily for loads derivation and Static Stressing.
• CAD Catia V5 and Cadds5 for interrogation (eg. Section properties, area, Centre of Gravity, Mass etc) would be an advantage
• Familiarity with use of Pc's, including Spreadsheets' and Mathcad is an advantage
• Ability to liaise with Designers to ensure the optimum design solution is achieved for mechanical and structural performance, which will additionally require sound engineering judgement'
• Awareness of Materials, Process, Fatigue and Weights requirements with regard to the overall design
• Awareness of JAR/FAR requirements and their influence on design and stress considerations to achieve aircraft certification
• Willing to contribute in an environment of continuous improvement and innovation
Qualifications:- BSc Mechanical or Aeronautical preferred but good HND acceptable
