Responsible for concept and detail stress analysis of actuation equipment / components. e.g. aerospace actuation systems, hydromechanical actuators, and rotary geared actuators.
Required to influence design; identify most efficient concept designs, produce load analysis and stress calculations, document analyses including stress plans and reports.
Contribute to the definition of qualification and development testing
Working within a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, directed by the Technical Lead, the Stress Engineer will:-
Produce concept design and detail stress calculations (30%)
Influence design schemes and detail manufacturing drawings (20%)
Produce engineering documentation including stress plans and stress reports (20%)
Contribute to qualification test schedules (test definitions), witnessing tests when appropriate (10%)
Present work to customers, product team, managers and functional specialists (10%)
Support proposal activities (10%)

May be responsible for co-ordinating the stress workload for less experienced stress engineers on large projects.
Work within a multi-disciplinary team of designers and technical specialists, technical leads and project managers.
Accountable to the product team's engineering manager for the timely delivery of project deliverables.
Accountable to the Chief Stress Engineer for the quality and completeness of analysis and related documentation

? Strong grasp of stress analysis techniques.
? Ability to read and influence design schemes and detail manufacturing drawings.
? Knowledge of metallic materials; their mechanical, static and fatigue properties.

? Work under pressure to meet project timescales and customer demands.

Essential
? Minimum 5 years experience of stress analysis including the preparation of classical hand' calculations and PC based analysis tools, preferably MathCad.
Minimum HND engineering qualification
Desirable
? Experience likely to be gained in aerospace, military, nuclear, marine, transport or other safety critical environments.
? Actuation/machine product knowledge.
? Finite Element Analysis.
Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, engineering, mathematics or physics.
Computer literate, especially with numerical tools (e.g. Microsoft EXCEL, MathCad)
Clear communication skills
