Description
Our client is a leading provider of enterprise class data storage subsystems and network technology.
The successful applicant will work within a new business area developing leading edge technology and prototypes for data storage solutions for the IT industry. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and creative team of architects and other engineers who investigate emergent technologies and architectures to evaluate for product/feature fit
The FPD Storage Protocol Architect is responsible for selecting storage based devices (eg SAS Expanders) for possible use in future storage products and providing support / debug of existing devices within our existing committed products. The candidate will primarily be working with SAS based products, sometimes in conjunction with other storage protocols
With products and concepts within the FPD group the candidate will need to work with vendors to help select and evaluate appropriate devices for use in these products. The candidate will also be required to support the fault finding and debug of these storage protocol devices during the evaluation phase and once integrated into a product. This will include the writing of reports on the issues found and working with the relevant vendors and customers to help resolve these issues.
Responsibilities:
- To help select and evaluate new emerging technology devices used in the data path on storage products
- Understanding relevant emerging standards and technologies with a vision on how these can be used to bring value to new products
- Provide support on all aspects of issues found at the protocol level within existing shipping products, products in development and devices under evaluation
- Work with vendors to manage and prioritise outstanding issues which may exist with their products. This will include writing detailed reports on issues found and proving protocol traces acquired with an Analyser where necessary
- Work with customers as required helping to integrate our products into their infrastructure. This can include areas such as topology definition and solving problems that arise with integrating our products with theirs.
- Educate Senior Developers / Team Leaders about devices, protocols and potential configuration restrictions
- Provide direction as to how to use and combine device features in order to provide value-add for RAS
Experience and Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will be degree educated, in an engineering discipline such as software or electrical
- Existing knowledge of the following storage protocols is highly desirable: SCSI, SAS, SATA, FC, iSCSI
- Ability to write software programs / scripts is highly desirable
- Able to keep abreast of advancements and new emerging technologies and learn protocols from standards defined specifications.
- Able to communicate effectively at all levels within the company, with customers and vendors
- The role may entail foreign travel
