Software Technologist.

The vacancy is for a technical specialist to provide software engineering capability and to lead and support avionics research projects for future programs.

The vacancy is for a technical specialist to provide software engineering capability and to lead and support avionics research projects for future programs.

The successful candidate will run a research project investigating the development of code from aircraft system models.
This will involve:
Defining tasks and deliverables in conjunction with system departments developing models.
Assigning and reviewing tasks.
Developing processes and evaluating tools and means to automate the process.
Developing and supporting qualification activities.

The candidate will also run a research project investigating and defining software aspects for the next generation of Integrated Modular Avionics. This will be performed in conjunction with ongoing similar / related projects.

Secondary activities for the successful candidate will be:
To review and understand the software architecture and development of suppliers developing software for integration onto modular avionics platforms.
Provide guidance and documentation for the software development activities performed in the department for test and integration rigs.

The successful candidate will have:
C language experience for real time applications being produced for civil aircraft / under the terms of DO-178B
Practical experience of the qualification activities for airborne software.
Experience of Project / Task Management.

The successful candidate must be capable of using MS Office applications, particularly Excel and knowledge of Visual Basic would be an advantage,

Modular Avionics is a key technology and requires a strong collaborative multipartner approach. To work in this field the successful candidate should therefore possess the following skills:
A good communicator. You will be working with colleagues from different countries and with a technology which is new to most people. Clear, unambiguous communication is essential in this position.
Able to present, often to a large number of people
An understanding of Real-Time systems and their software requirements in which they are installed.
An understanding Safety Critical systems and their requirements of the hardware on which they are installed
An understanding of distributed avionic architectures would be advantageous

The candidate should have practical experience of using Mathsowrks Simulink.

Skills and Experience
The candidate should typically have:
A degree in Computing, Software Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Systems Engineering, or a related subject.
Experience in the aerospace industry related to civil avionics.

Working knowledge of French and / or German will be an advantage.

The candidate will be expected to travel on a regular basis within Europe.
