Software Systems Design Manager
The Test Systems Group (TSG) Software Systems Design (SSD) Manager is a member of a dynamic growing centre of competence (COC) for the provision of innovative, world-class Test Systems solutions for the company, a large multi-national satellite company.

The Test Systems Group (TSG) Software Systems Design (SSD) Manager is a member of a dynamic growing centre of competence (COC) for the provision of innovative, world-class Test Systems solutions for the company, a large multi-national satellite company.
TSG is assigned the responsibility to provide the Test System expertise to meet the company programmes. The group has the responsibility for the provision of Test Systems to validate Equipments and Payloads products, which focuses on research, development and deployment in the field of RF and microwave space
qualified technologies.
The Equipments and Payloads products represent key technology within the spacecraft industry and are highly complex having unique technical requirements, high launch stress and temperatures that extend across many disciplines.
Tasks
The primary task of the TSG SSD Manager is to manage the software team within the group and including subcontracted software staff seconded for projects requirements to provide Software Systems designs to achieve the Test System performance to meet the requirements of the Test System delivery to cost & schedule.
The SSD team remit is focused on the design of the software systems within the overall Test System context providing Software systems functional architecture infrastructure, measurement software, Device Under Test (DUT) interfacing software, DUT simulation software, Test Results analysis software, Test System to Test System Interfacing software, System software verification and System software validation skills.
Regular reporting is required to internal customers as well as the line management with liaison with Project Team Leaders (PTL) and Project Managers. This includes progress reporting on the Software System designs.
The SSD Manager provides the nominated Software System Responsible Engineer (RE) within the team to support a specific product or project. The RE is responsible for achieving the Software System performance to meet the requirements of the Test System to validate the performance of Flight Equipments and Payloads.
Qualification and Skills
Proven theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the design and implementation of Software for Automated Test Systems
Minimum Degree or equivalent in an Engineering or Science subject
Good interpersonal and team skills
Responsibilities
Report to the TSG Management Lead
Attend TSG management meetings
Manage the Software System Design (SSD) team
Manage the software requirements and design reviews
Provides Test System Software Strategy
Responsible for the software team within the group and for subcontracted software staff seconded for projects requirements
Responsible for ensuring that the required software skills are available to meet the demand of all programmes
Responsible for all software issues and interfaces into other Departments / BU s
Responsible for ensuring the verification and maintenance of all software schedules and budgets including reports
Ensure software standards, processes and procedures are aligned to company quality requirements
Ensure appropriate training is applied to the software team and controlled to company processes
Provide assistance and advice to WPM S for the definition, estimate and approval of work
Responsible for Co-ordination of Test System software projects applications to provide a common architectural approach for reuse across applications
Responsible for a Test System software products, tools and library identification and maintenance for project reuse and service purposes
Provide Test System Software Design Authority
Provide the RE responsible for achieving the software system performance to meet the requirements
Provides project and product requirements, architectural and detailed design for all system software as a turnkey solution
Lead the Software System Design reviews

Work Experience
Principal software architect with experience in managing a software technical team
System architecture and methodology application experience

Authority and expertise in design of software for systems using:
1. System Applications: Simulators, OCOE, SCOE, PTS, STTE, EGSE
2. Measurement applications: Microwave, RF, Digital, DC and analogue Instrumentation
3. Interface Applications: Schemas, XML, MRD
4. HCI: GUI, Mimics, Logs, Reports
5. Control application: Sequencers Teststand
6. Bus Analysers: 1553
7. Database applications: SQL, FOST
Expertise in software architectural and detailed design at Systems level for DUT measurement validation
Expertise in software architectural and detailed design at Systems level for DUT control and simulation
Expertise in the design and implementation of software systems interfacing
Authority of software in terms of use and applications for the purposes of system design implementation
Expert knowledge of operating systems environments & software installation
Expert in software network management in industry standard computer interfaces
Experience of carrying out System integration from component to system level
Working experience of CE approval, & Safety standards and their implementation
Analysis of equipment, sub-system, and system specifications and propose software solutions
Design and develop test software solutions for units, sub-systems and systems
Knowledge of ATE systems design to meet time to test and mean time for repair requirements
Generate software schematics and layouts for Systems
Specify and select software languages and packages that provides best in class commercial Test environment for a sustainable environment
Debug software and hardware control system solutions solving problems and highlighting functional gaps
Define system flow and functional optimisation, generate spec, provide verification package
Ability to Evaluate project feasibility in terms of estimates to system complexity needs scaling the size, costs, labour and leadership requirements
Support Bid proposals and requirements role out
Assist in demonstrations of system software and performance capability
Derive design solutions to meet customer needs as well as travel to support customers
Derive sub-contractor requirements as well as travel to manage sub-contractors design reviews
Support integration & build including liaison with planning and procurement and use of company support tools
e.g. SPRINT / SAP / SourceSafe
Evaluate and report system performance
Writing skills in System design documents,
Technical Notes and Test Procedures & Reports
Development of Reference Documentation for test system control and software products
Work in a team environment to meet project & product targets
Support the exchange of information, data and improvement methods between various technical Engineering disciplines of Test, Systems, Validation, and Assembly
Integration & Test
PC windows literate being fluent in MS office packages
