Software Group Leader required for this leading defence organisation based in Bedfordshire.

The Software Group across the business areas requires a Group Leader to manage and support them on both functional and project issues. The Head of Software requires a Group Leader to lead development and functional activities in the Software Group.

Software Group Leader required for this leading defence organisation based in Bedfordshire.

The Software Group across the business areas requires a Group Leader to manage and support them on both functional and project issues. The Head of Software requires a Group Leader to lead development and functional activities in the Software Group.

Key responsibility areas:
Support the Head of Software in leading the development and implementation of functional initiatives, activities and processes. Provide day-to-day management of direct reports (leave, sick, etc), carry out PDRs and EDY assessments for direct reports, manage development needs and performance. Manage group resources (people, tools, facilities) via liaison with team leaders and with review of forward load. Liaise with Team Leaders and appropriate EPMs to specify, plan, estimate and agree the functional resources required to deliver a Work Package within a project schedule, cost and technical requirement constraints. Take part in project reviews, technical reviews, design reviews and phase reviews. Act as an appropriate role model, coach and mentor to develop team leaders.

The Software Group Leader will be educated to Degree level in an engineering/ science related subject. It is essential that you possess strong interpersonal skills, able to motivate and encourage, as well as deal with conflict and confrontation. Ability to manage personnel, project and functional issues. You will need a good understanding of software engineering technical issues. Military technology and product domain knowledge would be desirable.

You will need the ability to encourage and support others to give their best. Able to manage and organise resources; people, funds, equipment, etc. Good at two way communication; motivation and support; development and coaching; resilience.
