Description
The position is, as a member of a small team including full and part-time elements, to undertake systems analysis, technology availability assessment, prototyping and integration, specifically with regard to middleware and applications software.
Senior Systems Engineer Tactical Communications
Purpose of Position
The position is, as a member of a small team including full and part-time elements, to undertake systems analysis, technology availability assessment, prototyping and integration, specifically with regard to middleware and applications software. This is a challenging systems R&D role.
Responsibilities
The responsibility, within the team, will be to lead on evaluating and creating options for middleware and applications software solutions, supporting systems analysis and architecture definition undertaken by the team. Modular solutions that are readily tailorable to a range of potential export customers are required. Wherever possible, the emphasis is on utilising open source solutions.
The team has a programme of subsystem and system prototyping, and technology integration, and the emphasis is on rapid delivery, imaginative solutions, and wide and practical technical skills.
The job includes taking into account prototyping and development processes
Education/Experience
Essential:
Technical experience in software/middleware aspects of communications and information systems design, preferably in a military or mobile communications context.
Knowledge of voice and data networking, preferably in a military or mobile environment (e.g. WLAN, Radio, TETRA, Satcom).
Knowledge of development processes.
In-depth experience of integrating software/middleware packages in networked communications and information systems.
Proven self-starter and ability to deliver results.
Desirable:
Degree in relevant scientific or technical subject or equivalent experience
Knowledge of Linux
Knowledge of BOWMAN or the applications that run on it.
Ability to take a whole-system perspective. A broad understanding of how an integrated system works is more important than deep and narrow technical expertise.
