Description
The Company is a leading supplier of vacuum equipment to the semiconductor, scientific instrument and industrial markets.
To support an acceleration of cost reduction initiatives and new product development, the vacancy has arisen for a senior supply engineer, reporting to the supply engineering manager
Closely working with commodity managers and technical teams, the role of this individual will be to provide total lowest cost supplier selection for the manufacture of a wide range of product components, and includes delivery of component approval and potentially supplier contract negotiation.
Typically day to day activities include: Cost Reduction, Kaizen, Improvement projects, Tooling & equipment development, Capital expenditure justification, Method definition & documentation, Engineering change, design reviews, kanban maintenance and supplier negotiation & development.
The candidate must possess an Engineering degree - preferred Mechanical Eng., or equivalent. They must also have experience in a technical/operational/purchasing role within an engineering company. They must possess a sound engineering knowledge of designs and be able to influence designs to minimise cost, scrap and waste. This will ideally be in a low volume, high variety, high technology manufacturing environment.
To be successful you must be knowledgeable about manufacturing methods and lean manufacturing techniques, clear thinking, innovative, methodical and detail conscious. In addition you will have high levels of self-discipline, good communication skills, be able to work successfully with others, as well as being able to lead activities and to operate effectively under pressure.
Please note at times during projects, international travel may be a requirement for this role.
Detailed understanding of most of the following would be advantageous: Manufacturing processes, CNC machine tools, fixtures & tooling, component cleaning, Moulding, painting, functional test, FMEA, capital expenditure proposal, Contract negotiation, Vendor management & development, Process capability, SPC and use of CMMs

Degree in Engineering - preferred Mech Eng/Elec or equivalent
CIPS experience would be a distinct advantage
Experience:
The candidate must possess experience in an engineering, purchasing or operational role. They must have a sound engineering knowledge of designs and be able to influence designs to minimise cost, scrap and waste.
They must be able to demonstrate technical/problem solving skills and work within a team to deliver lowest total cost solutions with their choice of supplier selection
