Description

Contribute to Operational Analysis studies to support project teams, concept studies, and business winning opportunities. Studies are undertaken using a wide range of methods including 'soft' techniques, battle modelling and Human in the Loop simulation.

Operational Analyst (OA)

In particular, this role includes participation in studies and experimentation exercises, and subsequent analysis and reporting under the supervision of a more experienced member of the group.

Accountabilities
Reporting to the Head of Operational Analysis, within the Future Battlespace Solutions Department.
Participation in UK and International project or bid teams to ensure delivery of defined study outputs.
Working in a team but maintaining responsibility for completing specific activities
Participation in OA studies and experimentation activities, including: identification of User Requirements, establishing operational architectures (MODAF), evaluation and quantification of operational effectiveness and cost-effectiveness. Delivery of outputs to time and cost.

Specific activities include:
Setting up and running simulation tools e.g. battle models
Flying an air combat simulator to investigate tactics and generate quantitative results
Analysis of model outputs, formulating conclusions for review with more experienced team members
Structured qualitative analysis using a range of soft methods
Research and data gathering
Preparation of reports & presentations
Presenting familiar material to internal and external audiences
Support to the Head of Operational Analysis or Team Leader as required with aspects of project management, estimating & planning. Specific activities include:
Successfully managing own time
Providing resource estimates for familiar tasks

Ability to adapt to changing circumstances
Provision of technical expertise
Positive (enthusiastic and energetic) approach to new tasks

Skills and Knowledge
Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
Basic understanding of physical principles associated with weapon systems
Able to set up and run OA/Battle modelling tools to meet defined study criteria
Able to analyse model outputs and draw conclusions for review with more experienced members of the OA group
Able to write clear concise reports
Able to work as part of a team
Able to see and understand the 'big picture' and think about many things at once, as well as keeping track of the detail
Able to cope with uncertainty
Willing and able to present to customers (e.g. typically giving a 'standard' demonstration of FOX-SE of FLAMES)
Proactive, able to seek out contacts and information and suggest solutions
Awareness and practical experience of a range of OA techniques (Soft methods, PC tools, battle modelling, application of SE)
Willingness to develop expertise within the discipline

Economics
Working within a UK team of 8-10 specialists, in an international department of 35-40.
Typical tasks £20k to £150k value.

Successful candidates will be required to be security cleared prior to appointment.
