Senior Mechanical Engineer
Our Client offers bespoke handling solutions for every type of industrial and commercial application. These include engine and electric powered counterbalance trucks, a complete range of warehouse trucks, very narrow aisle systems, electric tow tractors, sideloaders and container handlers with capacities from one tonne to 52 tonnes.
They now seek a Senior Mechanical Engineer to perform a vital function within this dynamic design and development environment.
The Role:
The design and project management (timing, cost etc) of innovative and elegant mechanical engineering solutions to meet identified customer needs
Provide elegant, innovative and cost effective engineering solutions quickly and efficiently, making effective use of the Company engineering tools and processes
Carry out engineering development and research to high professional standards which use structured development methods and processes
Maintain ownership of the design from creation of the specification, producing drawings and compiling Bills of Material to enter into production
Ensure that development carried out uses technology that has a fully definable risk profile or carry out sufficient basic research to achieve this goal
Provide input into project plans & milestones to fulfil the requirements of the projects directly undertaken by the Product Engineering division (PED)
Ensure effective project progress reports are fed back to the Engineering Project Leaders/Managers, flagging significant deviations from the plan
Scheduling of peer-to-peer design reviews, and co-ordinate and lead technical reviews as directed by the PED engineering management
Escalate major problems to the PED Engineering management, taking ownership for subsequent agreed corrective action plans and contingency planning
Requirements:
Graduate in an engineering discipline or equivalent professional qualification
Structured formalised requirement capture methodologies
Preparation of elegant & innovative cost effective mechanical solutions & definition packages
Ability to generate prototypes quickly and cost effectively
Design for manufacturability and test
Good understanding of the Machinery's Directive and how it relates to the design of Reach Trucks.
Good technical authorship / documentation skills
Good working skills of Unigraphics (UG) NX 2 and capable of using this software as an engineering design tool
Strong influencing skills - ability to secure support and co-operation from peers and seniors via persuasion rather than direct authority
Ability to adapt style to different individuals / environments
Excellent organisation, planning and prioritisation skills
High levels of drive and tenacity to achieve project deliverables
