Overall Purpose/Objectives of Role

1. The design management and design, modification, commissioning, verification and proving of electronic circuits.
2. The preparation of documentation to enable the certification/approval of products in accordance with programme-specific requirements.

Key duties:
1. To generate hardware requirements documents from higher level requirements.
2. To design analogue and digital circuits in accordance with defined requirements specifications.
3. To plan and manage hardware qualification activities.
4. To ensure designs are documented to the relevant project/Company standards.
5. To specify equipment test requirements.
6. To take responsibility for completing hardware engineering activities to cost and schedule.
7. To liaise with other departments and functional groups as necessary.

Job-Related Experience:
Essential:
First hand hardware design skills. This should include experience of the complete design life cycle from interpretation of a requirements specification through design, development, debugging and documentation to design proving and certification.
Experience of designing microprocessor circuitry
Experience of designing analogue circuitry (eg amplifiers, filters and signal sampling)
Experience of logic design (including use of logic arrays eg VHDL or DSP) and schematic capture techniques
Knowledge of hardware qualification practices and procedures.
Experience of keeping documentation under formal configuration control
Experience of preparing board and unit level test specifications

Desirable:
Understanding of data acquisition concepts.
Familiarity with 68000 series microprocessor architecture and applications
Familiarity with TI TMS320 series DSP architecture and applications
Use of VHDL and programmable logic development tools such as ModelSim and Leonardo Spectrum
Awareness and appreciation of RTCA/DO-254
Awareness and appreciation of RTCA/DO-160 or equivalent

Qualifications and Experience
BSc or equivalent in Electronics Engineering or a closely related discipline
Considerable post-graduate experience in engineering

Other
Prepared to travel in the UK and abroad up to six times per annum, for up to one week at a time.
Willingness to work overtime when required
Current full driving licence
