Engineering background and qualification
Ability to communicate well all levels and develop a good rapport - high level of influencing and negotiating necessary.
Good international communication skills, european language an advantage (French/German/Italian/etc)
Ability to operate effectively in a 'political' environment and to handle confidential material and information sensitively.
Ability to manage a multi-national auditor team.
Good understanding of a wide range of business activities.
Good knowledge of Quality Management Systems / Environmental Management Systems, processes and procedures
Good knowledge of International Quality Standards relevant to business - AS9100/ISO9001/DEF STANS/AQAP
Qualified as a QMS Lead Auditor

Senior Group Quality Auditor

To carry out audits in support of an overall Audit Programme in order to assess the implementation and compliance with internal processes and external standards/contract requirements, to enable reporting to shareholders on Internal Controls, to identify process improvements and to assure maintenance of company QMS and EMS certifications.
The two main aspects of this role are
a) to lead and manage the new activities associated with Quality Internal Control (QIC) audits,
b) to deputise for the Group Quality Audit Manager

Lead and manage activities associated with Quality Internal Control (QIC) audits.
Note: There is a need for the company to establish 'internal controls' to give shareholder assurance on effectiveness of controls on Company processes. Quality has embedded such Internal Controls requirements within existing Quality audit practices in order to satisfy the above need on non financial processes. These audits are part of the Quality Audit programme as Quality Internal Control (QIC) audits.

The results of these audits will inform decision making and declarations by the CEO & CFO.
Interface with Process Owners (PO) & Delegate Process Owners (DPO) to establish the QIC audit programme and agree the outline Terms of Reference (TOR) for each audit.
Identify, negotiate and assign multi-national auditor resources from within the company and subcontracted to deliver the QIC audit programme. Lead, coach, develop and motivate the QIC auditor network - three full-time auditors and approximately 30 part-time auditors.
Carry out and report on specific QIC audits as the Lead Auditor evaluating deployment of the process being audited for conformity, and for improvement opportunities.
Monitor and progress delivery of the total QIC audit programme taking corrective actions when necessary to achieve full completion.
Record, track and facilitate the resolution and verification of QIC audit findings.
Lead the further development and maintenance of QIC audit processes, templates and tools.
Deputise for the Group Quality Audit Manager.
Carry out analyses on audit results to provide useful feedback to Process Owners and the business.
Provide advice, support and facilitation to the business in the implementation of the audit actions within defined timescale
Lead the planning, preparations, communications briefings and escorting arrangements for UK visits of external (Third Party) auditors to achieve and maintain required Company Certifications.
Support external audits by Customer (Second Party) auditors ensuring satisfactory resolution of resulting actions.

Perfromance Indicators
QIC audits completed and reported in accordance with the defined TOR and audit programme
Load and progress QIC audit Findings to satisfactory resolution within agreed target timescales
Provide timely QIC inputs to the annual quality audit programme planning.
Good relationships established and maintained with: PO/DPO's, Customer quality representatives, third party assessors (LRQA), auditor network, etc.
Compile reports in accordance with process and assigned areas of responsibility.
Maintain and improve audit processes, implementing required changes as assigned to timescale.
Complete between 3 - 6 First Party audits per year (inc QIC audits).
Track and manage a continuous level of between 10 - 30 audit findings (of all types).
Manage UK aspects of two Third Party audits per year. Resulting actions progressed to timely resolution within agreed target timescales.

Problem Solving Challenges
Identifying and obtaining the active involvement and support of senior managers in the business, avoiding conflict but getting timely action on audits and audit findings.
Lead and work closely with Part Time Auditors to ensure compliance to the required Standards.
Assimilating information and drawing conclusions - Good analytical skills, capability to analyse effectively and propose solutions.
Influencing and gaining support for implementing changes/actions
Recognise and work with different organisational cultures across UK, France & Italy
Resist pressure to inappropriately down-grade or close audit actions.

Economics
Manage the budget for QIC audits - approx. 100K pa

Successful candidates will be required to be security cleared prior to appointment.
