Senior Engineering Project Team Leader
We are supporting a global, diverse technology leader and the World's largest and most successful engine company. Our client leads the field in the design and manufacture of high-performance engines. Their continuous development programme, dedicated to furthering engine design allows them to offer one of the most advanced and comprehensive ranges of purpose-built diesel engines available today. Staying ahead in a rapidly changing world is vital and to achieve this they need ambitious, talented individuals who have the potential to create, challenge, and deliver global objectives.
This position is part of a growing, multi-disciplinary predictive engineering (CAE) team responsible for supporting the performance, emissions and mechanical development. The engines are used in machine, industrial and electric power applications.
You will be responsible for supporting engine structural integrity and verification, and component / system vibration development through the use of commercial and in-house developed software and processes. Examples include cylinder head durability, gasket sealing, bearing behaviour, crank train durability and vibration. The nature of the projects and their visibility within the organisation demands ownership of the tasks carried out and attention to detail.
The Role:
Component / system modelling and boundary condition definition using finite element software
Temperatures, stress, fatigue and vibration analysis
Supporting test-bed / installation activities to validate models when necessary
Dissemination of design guidance into engine community within UK and US
Identification of new and improved engineering methods
Technical ownership and financial control of individual projects
Report writing and preparation of project related presentation material
Requirements:
A good degree (2:1 or above) in Engineering subject, Physics or Mathematics
A sound understanding of engine fundamentals, together with an appreciation of the related underlying theoretical principles
A proven track record of delivery, technical prowess and use of analytical methods, ideally in engine industry, is expected
Detailed ABAQUS experience on thermal, structural and contact problems desirable
I-DEAS FE analysis experience, plus knowledge of modelling / geometry repair on solid components desirable
Knowledge of NASTRAN for static, dynamics and forced response problems desirable
Experience of engine component testing desirable
Pro-active, questioning mindset, and is enthusiastic and a self-starter
Strong technical skills and ability to communicate technical information effectively both verbally and in written form
Good MS office knowledge (Word, Project, Excel and PowerPoint)
Ability to work effectively with customers to define requirements, deliver timely engineering guidance and prioritise a range of work
Ability to work in a team environment and independently
