An excellent opportunity is available for a Senior Application Technologist for this large defence company based at Harlow in Essex, South England. The role is to analyse, enhance, develop, install, test and modify enterprise-wide Cognos business applications. The role will be responsible for providing technical application support for existing systems. Additionally, dependent on project assignments will assist in the development of new system solutions.
Skills
- In depth knowledge of required language(s)/applications/databases/technologies.
- Understanding of IT / Systems Engineering disciplines, including: requirements management; configuration management; change control; reliability analysis; and quality management.
- Understanding of basic action planning, tracking, and reporting.
- Appreciation of all aspects of IT.
- Effectively uses the specialist technical knowledge and resources of team mates to achieve working solutions.
Experience
- Educated to degree level or equivalent, plus extensive practical experience.
- Proven experience of implementing BI solutions from a data warehouse and have extensive knowledge of Cognos 8. This should include Framework manager, Report studio, Query Studio and Analysis Studio.
- Previous system administration experience with Cognos (implementations, upgrades, security, maintenance etc).
- Experience in the use of SQL.
- General knowledge of wide range of IT technologies and activities, with specific knowledge of one or more technology fields.
- Use of formal systems delivery methodologies.
- Experience in computing languages relevant to post.
- Experience of delivering and supporting business critical application packages within a large organisation.
- Experience of packaged software implementation & upgrades.
