Principal Purpose of Job:
To track, collate and review safety certification supporting evidence prepared by development project teams prior to formal approval by a Safety Authority.
Main Responsibilities:
Perform reviews of supporting evidence provided by development project teams for Safety and Design certification.
These reviews are of key importance to the reputation and credibility of the company and are a significant measure in ensuring we have met our obligations.
Significant experience and judgement will be brought to bear to ensure that no significant issue is left undiscovered, whilst not providing an unnecessary burden in achieving programme milestones.
Provide advice to projects on requirements of safety and certification QMS and IPDP.
This important pro-active element of the role requires experience and judgement to be brought to bear to ensure that programmes provide the necessary development controls to produce timely/appropriate evidence with minimal overhead.
Liaise with current development project teams to identify schedule of events to certification and availability of supporting evidence for review.
Prepare certification pack' ready for formal approval of safety and design certifications
Report to Safety Authority on status of certification pack including recommendations for approval
Perform status monitoring and reporting on progress of project to certification milestones
Quantitative Data:
In order to hold this role and to be able to bring to bear the judgement and experience required by the main responsibilities' an individual will have held significant budget, technical and personnel responsibility.
The Engineer will be required to liase with project staff and certification authorities within the customer organisation, and with internal customers' within the company. Good written and oral communications and good inter-personnel skills are key.
The position holds significant responsibility in the technical arena. Whilst this role is not empowered to sign safety certification documentation on behalf of the company, their activities are a crucial link in the chain to achieve such sign off. Professionalism, Integrity and attention to detail are key skills.
Whilst there is no direct budget or personnel resource management responsibility, this role carries with it the potential for significant impacts on project budgets/resourcing through timeliness and consequential evidence requirements placed on projects.
Education and Experience:
Engineering based Degree level qualification
General multi-disciplined Engineering Background
Design Qualification/V&V
Significant knowledge in Defence Avionics and/or Land Systems
Previous role as Safety Engineer and/or Design Authority
Knowledge of current Defence Safety and Certification Requirements
