Safety Case Engineers are required from junior through to principle level with opportunities in Plymouth, Bristol and possibly Helensburgh area depending on previous experience.Opportunity may exist for sponsorship in nuclear safety MSc

Successful candidates will go into a group comprises a multi-disciplinary team of professional staff/contractors who provide specialist knowledge, support and advice necessary to the various Plant Managers to enable them to comply with the statutory and contractual requirements relevant to the nuclear related activities carried out by the Company within the Nuclear Licensed Site.

Main duties / responsibilities associated with this position include:

- To manage the preparation of appropriate safety cases/assessment documents, as required by the Plant Manager, relevant to specific Plant, Processes or Modifications, in accordance with agreed standards as determined by relevant Legislation, associated compliance documents and Company Guidance. Acceptable standards are judged by the relevant safety committee(s) followed by regulatory approval where appropriate.

- To act as Project Manager for safety Cases that have been sub-contracted, ensuring delivery to time, quality and cost.

- To identify the need for remedial action or additional technical/safety justifications and agree with the DSM/Safety Engineering Manager the programme of work to be carried out.

- To support other Safety Case authors by providing a quality checking service to an agreed scope or are of expertise.

- To be able to construct/check Qualified Risk Assessment including both deterministic and probabilistic methodologies, utilising the techniques of:

Consequence Assessment
Fault and Event Tree Analysis
Reliability Analysis
HAZOP
FTA
Human Factors

- To document, in appropriate procedures, activities carried out by the department and to support other Company procedures as necessary to ensure compliance with their statutory and contractual requirements relevant to Nuclear related activities.

- To ensure that the Safety Cases produced cover the scope of operations, as defined by the Plant Manager, to timescales that will allow those operations to be carried out on time.

- To provide advice to the Plant Manager on the implementation and maintenance of safety cases and the implementation of Site Licence Conditions/Authorisation Condition Compliance Statements.

- Provide guidance and advice to support Plant Managers and the Safety Engineering Manager on Safety Case, Site Licence and MoD Authorisation issues, and to liaise with NII, MOD, and other groups as appropriate.

The group consists of Principle Systems Engineer, Senior Systems Engineers and Systems/CAD/Mechanical/CE&I engineers.

- To supply a company resource and guidance to the undertakings of HAZID and HAZOP studies.

- To attend HAZID, HAZOPS, Design Reviews and Safety Case studies.

- Undertake work in support of the Periodic Safety Review of plant under the Design Authority control of the Nuclear Process Manager.

The ideal candidate for this position should have:

- HNC/Degree (or equivalent with relevant experience) in an appropriate engineering or science discipline and the ability to undertake extensive specialist technical courses when in post and pass all necessary external examinations.

- Competent with Software packages (MS Word, Excel, Documentum, AutoCad, Design software packages, shielding/consequences codes as required).

- Knowledge of engineering theory, materials and components.

- Knowledge of Design Codes, British Standards, ASME codes and European codes(e.g. BS 5950, BS 2573).

- Knowledge of and application of techniques for radiological dose assessment, consequence assessment, shielding and critical assessment.

- A member of an appropriate engineering/scientific institution.
