We are seeking a Reactor Physics Assistant to assist the Reactor Physicist by contributing to all aspects of reactor/defuelling operations and safety work, ensuring the safe operation of the reactors and compliance with the nuclear safety case.

You will contribute to the Reference Safety Case as required by the Reactor Physicist, will prepare and maintain Site Operating Instructions and monitoring and provide statements on Operating Rule compliance and will assist with Fault Study assessments and any resulting changes to the operating envelope as well as monitoring the availability of Safety Related Plant and continuously reviewing reactor conditions by temperature surveillance.

The Reactor Physics Assistant will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient defuelling of the reactors and checking defuelling documentation, maintaining fuel records, ensuring fuel movements are properly monitored and recorded, and providing information on irradiated fuel and complying with the Occupational Quality Assurance Plan (OQAP), Management Control Procedures (MCPs) and carrying out Reactor Physics Instructions as specified by the Reactor Physicist.

Qualified to degree level in a scientific/maths discipline or with demonstrable relevant experience, you should have comprehensive knowledge of reactor physics, reactor/conventional plant design, operation and performance, the parameters affecting core performance, power and reactivity Control and fuel management and fuel integrity controls.

As Reactor Physics Engineer a familiarity with methods of fault analysis, test procedures and analytical/modeling techniques, using computers is essential, as is a general understanding of the Site Licence and legislation requirements associated with reactor safety, some knowledge of the Company's arrangements for the presentation of Safety Cases

You should have excellent communication skills for providing advice, preparing reports, Safety documentation and occasional supervision, attention to detail and have a track record of delivering for customers. You must take responsibility for your own actions and promote team working to achieve Site Results, and should have a natural ability to work comfortably with complex tasks and routines.
