Description
RF Engineer
Reporting to the Consultant RF Engineer/Project Manager. You will be proficient in the discipline of RF circuit, Antenna design and test within the division developing RF subsystems that are robust, cost effective and delivered on time in line with new and emerging technologies.
Principal Accountabilities
Research and development of transceiver and antenna subsystems including specification, architectural/system design, modelling, preparation of schematics, test/verification, documentation etc. Major contributor to the development RF sub-system projects as either a lead or within a team delivering to internal customer facing teams. Major contributor to formal Design and Project Reviews including input to other areas of discipline e.g., Test, Manufacturing, etc. Create work breakdown and estimates for new Projects and RF sub-systems. Create specifications for RF components and sub-modules as required, and as outlined in company Product Development Process, to ensure compliance with customer specification. Ensure proper test, debug and verification of hardware prior to release and as dictated by functional requirements. Evaluates RF and transceiver components/modules in line with the technology roadmap, producing detailed technical reports. Audits and critiques departmental and external outsource partners output to ensure adherence to a consistent company standard enabling robust, well defined, fully tested, documented, maintainable and cost effective designs. Contributes to the definition and promotion of company quality standards for RF engineering. Contributes to and promotes improvement of the company Product Development process; continually reviewing the working methods to ensure the most efficient operation. Liaise with Customers, Suppliers and Partners. Good aptitude for communication, coaching, mentoring with less experienced Engineers.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
Essential
Degree/equivalent in Electrical and Electronic, Radio Frequency or Communication Engineering. An individual with demonstrated success in the development of complete RF Subsystems. Excellent knowledge of RF transceiver architecture and design, preferably with experience relating to broadband wireless/cellular systems or broadcast technology. Excellent knowledge of Antenna systems and hands on experience of antenna design. Excellent knowledge of digital TV/STB modulation standards such as DVB C, DVB S, DVBS2, ATSC 8VSB, DVB T-H, DOCSIS, DAVIC, RF Re-modulators and EMC. Knowledge of RF PCB layout techniques. Able to advise and identify layout issues early in the development phase. Good knowledge of both digital and analogue technologies, ideally in the television industry, with significant experience of system design and measurement techniques.Detailed knowledge of hardware design tools, practices and processes e.g. Mentor ECAD. Proven experience in the development from design to manufacture of several successful RF Subsystem projects.Experience of hardware reliability and conformance issues e.g. MTBF, EMC, failure rates. Able to develop effective relationships internally and externally. Demonstrated mentoring ability and experience in the Hardware Engineering Discipline. Good interpersonal, communication, presentation and reporting skills.
Desirable
RF Electronic Design Aid knowledge such as Matlab, Microwave Office, ADS or Genesys. A background in Broadcast TV, Broadband Wireless or Mobile Communications. Wireless Antenna design experience.
